Care Guide

To help your garment look and feel its best for years, always follow the instructions on the care label. The guidance below complements those instructions and covers day-to-day care.

Before You Wash

Wear pieces more and wash them less; simply air them between wears to refresh. Treat stains first by dabbing gently with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent before committing to a full wash. Close zips and buttons and turn garments inside out to protect the surface and reduce friction in the drum. Sort by colour and fabric - wash darks with darks, and separate heavier items like denim from delicate knits.

Hand Wash or Colder Machine Wash

For wool and cashmere, hand washing is the safest option: use cool water, dissolve a little pH-neutral, enzyme-free detergent, submerge the garment, and gently squeeze -never rub or wring - then rinse in cool water until clear. If the label allows machine washing, choose a delicate or wool cycle at cold or 30°C with a low spin, place items in a mesh bag to minimise friction, and avoid overloading the drum.

Air Dry (No Tumble Dry)

Skip the tumble dryer, as heat and tumbling can shrink fibres, distort shape, and break down elastics. For knits, press out excess water with a towel, reshape carefully, and dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight. For wovens and shirts, hang on a shaped hanger and smooth seams and plackets by hand to reduce the need for ironing.

Proper Storage

Fold knitwear to prevent stretching, and hang wovens - such as shirts, trousers, and jackets on supportive hangers. Let knitwear rest between wears so the fibres can recover. Store garments in a cool, dry, dark place, avoiding damp areas and direct sunlight. Natural protectors like cedar blocks or lavender sachets can help keep things fresh; keep them from touching the fabric directly.

Detergent - Made for the Garment

Use a pH-neutral, enzyme-free wool detergent for wool and cashmere, and avoid bleach and fabric softener. For cotton and blends, a mild liquid detergent is sufficient; choose formulas without optical brighteners for dark colours. Use less detergent than you think - over-dosing leaves residue and can dull the hand feel.

Steaming & Ironing

Refresh and release creases with steam, holding the steamer a few centimetres away and avoiding saturation at seams. Iron only if needed, using the temperature indicated on the care label and pressing on the reverse side with a clean press cloth.

Pilling (Knits)

Light pilling is normal, especially on softer yarns. Remove pills gently with a wool comb or a fabric shaver on a light setting, always working slowly with the garment laid flat.

Denim & Dark Fabrics

Wash denim and dark colours inside out, and in cold water to help preserve colour and hand feel. Avoid long soaks and high spin speeds to minimise streaks and creases.
