How to Care for Your Clothes – and Make Them Last for Years
At CYME Copenhagen, we believe that good design is not only about the looks but also thinking longevity into the product. Way too much clothing ends up in landfills, and in a world where fast fashion takes up a lot of space; longevity and timeless ‘non-trendy’ design almost becomes a quiet form of rebellion.
However, from our perspective that's why we choose only high-quality materials and craft garments that are made to last.
But even the best clothing need care,
Here’s our guide to making the most of your wardrobe – one mindful choice at a time
1. Air It Out – Don’t Overwash
Natural fibers like merino wool and cashmere are self-cleaning. That means you can often skip the wash and simply hang your garments to air out – ideally outside or in a well-ventilated space. Overwashing breaks down fibers and fades colors faster.
2. Wash Gently
When it’s time to wash, aim to use colder water when possible. Remember that less is more when it comes to laundry detergent, both for your garments and your washing machine.
Place delicate items in a washing bag and choose a delicate cycle – or even better, hand wash. Always check the garment label before laundering.
3. Skip the Dryer
High heat can distort fibers, especially in natural materials. Instead, let your garments air dry naturally. This helps maintain the garment’s shape and softness.
4. Store Properly
Store your clothes in a cool, dry place. Fold knitwear instead of hanging to avoid stretching.
5. Embrace Patina – And Repair When Needed
Small holes or loose threads? Don't throw it away – mend it. Minor fixes can add years to your garment’s life. You can even reach out to us for care tips or repair suggestions specific to your CYME piece.
The longer you wear your clothes, the smaller your footprint.
Caring for your clothes is caring for the planet. At CYME, we’re proud to create garments that are worth maintaining – and we’re here to help you every step of the way.
